Hermiston School District, Stanfield School District, Umatilla School District and Morrow County School District have all canceled school for Tuesday after snow fell all afternoon Monday.
Hermiston School District announced the snow day will be made up on Feb. 15, which students originally had off.
A steady stream of crashes happened throughout the day on Monday, including a multi-vehicle crash on Cabbage Hill above Pendleton that resulted in injuries.
Interstate 84 was closed westbound between Ontario and exit 216 east of Pendleton for much of Monday to deal with multiple crashes.
The Oregon Department of Transportation reported dense fog and snow in the area, and said the interstate closure would likely last four to six hours. Emergency scanner traffic indicated other crashes were beginning to happen as the snow moved west to Hermiston, and ODOT recommended that all travelers check the latest updates at TripCheck.com or call 511 or 800-977-6368 before setting out.
Blue Mountain Community College announced evening classes at the Hermiston, Pendleton and Boardman campuses were canceled and classes before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday would also be canceled. Oregon Child Development Coalition Head Start announced it would be closed Tuesday.
The city of Umatilla announced it would close city hall at 3 p.m. and remain closed until 10 a.m.
