Members of Hermiston High School’s graduating class should hold their heads up high, according to Principal Tom Spoo.
At a celebration to honor the Class of 2022, 335 Hermiston High School graduates walked across the stage to take their diplomas Thursday, June 9. Around 35 additional students of the class received their diplomas, too, but were not on the stage, Spoo said.
“This is a group of kids, like others in a number of towns across the state and country, who persevered,” Spoo said.
He praised the students for completing their high school education, despite challenges related to COVID-19.
There were 20 valedictorians. Each of these students earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average and an honors diploma.
Those top students were not the only ones who received special recognition, though, according to the principal. Twenty students in addition to the valedictorians earned honors diplomas, too. Most of the graduates, 226, completed a program of study. Nine students met the standards for military admission.
What’s more, these graduates qualified for over $1,700,000.00 in scholarships.
