A vehicle crashed through the front window of Hermiston business, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage.

Teresa Martin, the store manager of Big Lots, said the store reopened Friday, after a Wednesday accident left them cleaning up the front area of the store.

According to Hermiston Police, Hermiston resident Christina Grace Kennedy, 78, was pulling into the parking lot in front of Big Lots, when she states she must have hit her gas pedal instead of her brake, and accelerated into the store. Her black Subaru Forester traveled between 50 and 75 feet, and is estimated to have caused between $60,000 and $90,000 worth of damage in the store. She was cited for careless driving.

Martin said on Friday that most of the damage would be repaired by the middle of this week.

She said there was an 18-foot area in the front of the store that was boarded up while they wait for materials to be delivered, but other than that it was business as usual at the store.

“It was a little bit of a shock,” Martin said of the crash. “But then we all just came together.”
