COOS BAY — Three representatives from the Hermiston Fire Department joined more than 1,000 firefighters from throughout the Northwest Sunday in a memorial service for three fallen Coos Bay firefighters.

Hermiston firefighters Cory Gorham, Scott Stanton, and Lt. Jeff Adkins were part of a procession of fire-fighting vehicles that wound through the streets of Coos Bay.

Jeff Common, Chuck Hanners, and Lt. Randy Carpenter of the Coos Bay Fire Department lost their lives Nov. 25 while fighting a blaze when roof of a burning structure collapsed.

"We went because they were brother firefighters," said Lt. Jeff Adkins. "No distance was too far for that."
