HERMISTON — Two Oregon State Police officers have been reinstated to the west county office in Hermiston.

The reinstatements occurred after the Legislature came up with funding to restore 45 OSP officers

"Alex Hesla and Placido Lopez, both troopers, were cleared to return to work last week," said Lt. Darin Helman. "This is a very good thing. When you have a small amount of troopers, just bringing two back in adds to our ability to service the public."

Hesla and Lopez were laid off Feb. 1 after statewide budget cuts eliminated 129 troopers.

"These troopers that we just rehired — there is no guarantee that they won't have to go through the same process," Helman said.
