HERMISTON — Officer Tim Beinert, Hermiston Police Department school resource officer, received a life-saving award at the city council meeting Monday evening.

Beinert received the award for rescuing Hermiston resident Esther Nation on March 25. Nation had been trapped under a bookcase in her home for two days before Beinert came to the home to do a welfare check.

Medical personnel estimated that Nation would not have been able to recover if someone had not found her within the next two hours. Nation is currently recuperating with her daughter in Walla Walla, Wa.

Nation, accompanied by her daughter, attended the council meeting to thank Beinert for his efforts. Police Chief Dan Coulombe spoke about the award and the events that lead to Nation's rescue before giving Beinert the award.
