John Edson Kalal

Nov. 26, 1916-Dec. 28, 2001

HERMISTON — John Edson Kalal died Friday, Dec. 28, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston at the age of 85.

John was born in Roy, Mont., on Nov. 26, 1916, to John and Lillie Harndon Kalal. He had been a resident of the Stanfield area for the past 50 years.

He was a self employed contractor and operated a land leveling business for many years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marines as a fighter pilot.

John was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed fishing and loved gardening. He raised raspberries and tomatoes.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Kalal, in May of 2000.

He is survived by a brother, Ray Kalal of Hermiston; two sisters, Lilly Benjamin and Alice Lane, both of Portland; three step-granddaughters; three step-great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Edie Benjamin.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 3, at 1 p.m. at the Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Stanfield.
