Just Out Highland: The runt follows through

The assistant went flying into the thorn tangle, head over teakettle. He ended up on his back, lying head down, suspended in the thorns about 10 feet below the road.

"Pain" was the only thought that came to mind. Whatever happened to those hormones that are supposed to kick in times of crisis? You know, the ones that blot out some of the pains one initially feels at the time of injury? Obviously they had not gotten the message.
