John Dennis Torpey, 67, of Pace, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 10.
Mr. Torpey was born in Tensed, Idaho, and had resided in the Santa Rosa County area since 1960.
He was a Navy veteran, and he retired from Cyanamid/Cytec/Sterling Fibers, after 38 years of service.
He was affiliated with the Church of Christ Church.
Mr. Torpey was preceded in death by his father, Howard LeRoy Torpey; his mother, Norma Muriel Cummings; his stepfather, James Cummings; a sister Carolyn Jones and two brothers, Howard Laverne Torpey, and Edward Torpey.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Torpey of Pace; two children, John D. Torpey, Jr. of Pace, and Brenda K. (Steve) Lucky of Navarre; two stepchildren, Judith (Harold) Neely of Milton, and Louis A. (Sharon) Burgess of Tallahassee; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; his brothers, Roger (Jan) Cummings of Black Hawk, S.D., Mike (Claudia) Torpey of Portland, Dick (Debbie) Torpey of Portland; his sisters, Juanita (Ronald) MacMahon of Woodland, Wash., and Michelle DeJoode of Forest Grove; his stepmother, Jocelyn Torpey of Portland; his brothers-in-law, Isaac Leverette, and Herbert (Judy) Leverette, both of LaFayette, Ala.; his sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn Harris, Queen (Tommy) McCoy, Harriett Tibbs, all of LaFayette, Alab., and Alice Torpey and Linda Torpey both of California; his mother-in-law, Harriett Leverette of LaFayette, Alabama; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Torpey were held on Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Lewis Funeral Home in Milton. Burial followed in the Barrancas National Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home directing.
