An annual tradition will soon brighten Irrigon as it has for more than 20 years.

According to organizer Donna Eppenbach, the Christmas tree in IrrigonÂ’s city park will come to life Sunday, Dec. 5, at 5 p.m.

The Irrigon Watermelon Festival sponsors the tree every year, Eppenbach said, and a crew from the city will put up the decorations once again.

She said events during the lighting will depend on the weather, but free hot coffee, cocoa and pastries will be available in the Irrigon Fire Hall at Seventh Street and North Main Avenue.

If the December cold or snow stays away that Sunday night, children can meet Santa Claus and the entire crowd will enjoy caroling from local music groups.

For more information, residents and visitors can call Eppenbach at 541-922-3197.
