HERMISTON — They came from all over the country with the same goal in mind — to become the chief of police in Hermiston.

The five candidates and their spouses, or in one case daughter, traveled here to see the area and take part in interviews.

Hermiston City Manager Ed Brookshier does not expect to announce the city’s selection until mid-September.

The five finalists emerged from an original group of 54 applicants. City officials, working with consultants from the Olandi Group, Inc., reduced the number to 13 semi-finalists and conducted phone interviews with them.
