HERMISTON The Bulldog girls soccer team of Hermiston made a successful season debut last week, coasting by Riverside of Boardman 3-1 in Hermiston.
Hermistons Amy Horneck scored 10 minutes into the game on an unassisted shot.
She hit a very long shot right over the keeper, Hermiston coach Ben Jarman said.
Five minutes later, Hermiston doubled their lead when freshman Amanda Sivey scored on an assist by Kelly Royer.
It was just a beautiful open field pass, Jarman said of Royers effort.
Royer capped the Bulldog scoring when she found the net at the 35 minute mark. Anna Puzey assisted on the goal. Riversides only goal came on a 25-yard penalty kick by Mara Collin.
I was pleased, Jarman said.
I think for our first game, it gave us an indication of what we need to work on.
Top on that list for Jarman is fitness, particularly game-fitness.
We need to get our match fitness up.
Jarman had kind words for the Riverside program, one that has shown improvements over passed years. Pendleton will pay a 4 p.m. Hermiston visit Thursday as each team begins league play.
