Anyone interested in learning more about the potential Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center will have the opportunity Tuesday at the Hermiston Conference Center.

The Hermiston Chamber of Commerce is hosting a forum and luncheon on the community-driven project that would create a multi-million dollar facility for year-round events, including the Umatilla County Fair and Farm-City Pro Rodeo, on land near the Hermiston airport.

Representatives from the EOTEC steering committee will present information on the project, and audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions and give feedback.

“These folks have presented information to the city council and to the county commissioners, but there has not been an opportunity for the general folks in the community to hear about what the plan is,” Chamber board president Phil Hamm said Thursday. “They’ll present information about where the plan is, who’s involved with the plan, what the current layout is … the list goes on and on. Then there will be a question-and-answer time for sure.”

The luncheon will be catered by Dinner Thyme, and tickets will be available at the Hermiston Conference Center. Cost is $10 for chamber members and $15 for non-members.

“The bottom line is that this is a tremendous opportunity for Hermiston to truly help continue to build. The trade and events center would be a great addition to the community,” Hamm said. “We truly want people to come with their questions whether they’re uncertain of what this project means or if they’re in favor or not in favor of it. Come and ask questions directly of the people involved.”
