A crescendo of fireworks capped-off a year-long centennial celebration for Stanfield's Fourth of July on Sunday.
From the residents who'd been there for only a short time to the great-nephew of the city's founder, Senator Robert N. Stanfield, Independence Day was a blast.
"I've only been here for three years but this is wonderful," said Denise Reynolds of Stanfield. "I grew up in a small town like this, so I love the closeness of the community."
Fourth of July parade grand marshall Jerome Stanfield said he was very touched by the hospitality the community his great-uncle founded showed he and his wife, Gary-Anne Stanfield, on Sunday.
"I was just overwhelmed by it all," said Stanfield. "It was just an honor, I had some real nice talks with people including the mayor (Tom McCann)."
The couple made the trip from West Richland, Wash., to be part of the morning festivities.
Though no official numbers were available, Dave Meyers, Fourth of July Committee Chairman, said the weekend event, which included Saturday's annual steak feed, went well.
"The city's centennial probably had a lot to do with it, but we've had a better crowd than last year," Meyers said.

The Fourth of July parade had 70-75 participants, more than the 50 in last year's parade, and the committee's purchase of water slides was a big hit.
"I love it, it's wet," said Elias Esquivel, 9.
The park stayed busy for the entire afternoon with high school groups running face-painting booths, the Stanfield FFA's Duck Race, a pie baking contest by the Stanfield Baptist Church won by Stanfield resident Lorraine Newman, whose Raspberry Cheesecake beat out last year's winner, Barbara Buckwater'sApple Pie, and Pendleton magician Marc Mullins keeping everyone busy.
All of which would not have been possible, without the great participation by members of the community.
"It's a great way of sending off the Centennial," Meyers said. "The biggest thing to do next is getting our new gateways in."
