The Umatilla County Fair is seeking applicants for the 2011 fair court.  Applicants must be between 16-20 years of age prior to Oct. 1, 2010, and presently enrolled in school or have a diploma. In addition, the applicant must be a Umatilla County resident.  Participants will receive a college scholarship upon completion of their duties on the court.

The board of directors announced that no horse riding experience is required. That’s because a new emphasis has been placed on fair court members and their role as ambassadors for the fair and the county for the coming year.

The 2011 fair court applicants will be expected to prepare and present a speech (3-5 minutes in length) describing interest in serving as a member of the Umatilla County Fair Court; why you would be the best person to serve as an ambassador for the fair and the county; and personal experiences attending or participating in the fair as an exhibitor through 4-H or FFA.

Fair court members will represent Umatilla County and the fair, not only during the week of fair in August, but at parades and other functions throughout Eastern Oregon and Washington in 2011.  Each year members of the Umatilla County Fair Court receive a scholarship upon completion of their reign. The amount of the scholarship is determined each year by the board of directors.

Applications can be obtained at all Umatilla County High Schools, Blue Mountain Community College, Extension offices, from the Umatilla County Fair website or at the fair office in Hermiston.

Late applications will be returned.
