Laura Elizabeth Eickman

HERMISTON — Laura Elizabeth Welty Eickman died Friday, Feb. 21, at the Good Samaritan Center in Hermiston at the age of 91.

Laura was born to Peter H. and Maude Lee Welty on Nov. 14, 1911, in Fairfax, S.D. She came to Hermiston in 1941. She married Ernest Eickman in 1950 in Grandview, Wash.

She loved Grace Baptist Church of Hermiston where she attended for many years. She was a retired bookkeeper for the Umatilla Army Depot.

Mrs. Eickman was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie, in January 1979; four brothers, Kermit Welty , Maurice Welty, Vernon Welty and Lloyd Welty of Montana; sister, Thelma Gonzales; and a stepson, James Eickman.

She is survived by her sister, Juanita Bender of North Dakota; her daughter-in-law, Edna Eickman; her grandchildren, Erika and John; several nieces and one nephew.

Laura was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church (formerly Highland Baptist Church) of Hermiston which was formed in 1951. She was active in the church where she served as church clerk for many years, Sunday School teacher, and was active in the church mission program. She received a letter of congratulations from the governor of South Dakota upon her graduation from high school.

A memorial service was held at Grace Baptist Church on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m. A private burial was held at the Hermiston Cemetery.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston was in charge of the arrangements.
