Monmouth — Echo seniors Cierra Eby and Rachael Jackson finished their track and field careers strong, helping the Cougars to an eighth place finish at the 1A state championships.

Eby, who qualified for the state meet in three events, placed in the top four in all three of those competitions and earned the Cougar ladies 16 points for her efforts.

The sprinter finished third in the 100-meter dash, and fourth in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash.

Jackson finished second in the shot put, with a throw of 36 feet, six inches to bag eight more points for Echo.

The 24-point total put the Cougars in sole possession of eighth place at the state meet, but well off the pace of runaway winners Sherman, who scored 112 points.

In boys' track action, C.J. Zita capped off his prep athletic career with a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run.

Zita's five points was all the scoring Echo would have — Zita was the lone Cougar boy competing — and put the school in 31st place overall.

Damascus Christian took home the boys' team title with 81 points.
