Filing has closed, and voters will see multiple names in every race for Umatilla municipal government positions in the November election.
Two Umatilla residents, Daren Dufloth and Karen Steen, filed for mayor, to complete the four-year term expiring in 2012. That slot opened when former mayor David Trott resigned to apply for the city manager position.
Dufloth was elected to the Umatilla City Council in 2008.
Of the three open seats on Umatilla City Council, the most hotly contested could be council position 1. Cindy Roxbury currently has the seat, but three challengers have filed against the incumbent: David Lougee, Rick Funderburk and Roger Wickers. In council position 3, incumbent and acting mayor Bill Meade will face Keith Harding, and in council position 5, newcomers Lyle Smith and Eugene Challis will campaign for votes. Council position 5 is held by Dufloth.
Each council position has a four-year term that expires on Dec. 31, 2014, and the election is Nov. 2.
As the candidates look toward the election, current City Council members also continue the search for a new city manager. Tuesday, City Council reviewed applications for the position and selected six applicants to undergo background checks. Interviews will be scheduled for each of the applicants who pass the background check.
