Hermiston High School Teacher and Head Baseball Coach
When and why did you move to Hermiston?
I moved to Hermiston in the summer of 2017 after accepting a teaching and coaching opportunity.
Where is your favorite place to eat in Hermiston?
I will be honest with you, I really don’t have a favorite place to eat, but with this pandemic shutdown, I will support all local restaurants as much as I can. Being a teacher in the district, our business community supports our local schools and I only think it is fair for me to give back by eating at a different eatery every Friday night with my wife.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In the fall, I like to venture in the outdoors and do some upland and big game hunting. There is nothing like fresh mountain air. In the winter, I do officiate some high school basketball. Come spring, this is the busiest time for me as baseball has begun. Summer then hits and this is when I relax by playing golf with my friends. But the most important thing I like to do is be by my wife’s side in everything she does. She is my rock!
What surprises you about Hermiston?
Two things here: One, Hermiston is growing and is going to continue to grow — how big, I don’t know, but with Amazon planting some roots here, I see the community growing at a rapid pace in the next 5 to 10 to 15 years. Two, the students at Hermiston High School. This is a tough time for them, but each student has been a champion through this pandemic and with their education. This is not only tough on the teachers, but extremely tough on our students, and they are fighting every day to become a better student and we as teachers are seeing that. Keep up the good work, students.
What was the last book you read?
I’m not a big reader. But I can actually say the last book was “The Big Miss” by Hank Haney.
What website or app do you use most other than Facebook?
I’m not a technology person at all, but the one app that is consistently going off on my phone with updates is ESPN.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
This is a question my wife and I have frequently talked about. This summer, we are going to be adventurous and drive across the continental 48 and see as many states, landmarks and college bookstores and watch a 6-game series between the most heated rivalry in baseball, Yankees and Red Sox. I am excited for that!
What is the funniest thing that’s ever happened to you?
I try not to put myself in those situations now with all the social media.
What is one of your goals for the next 12 months?
Continue being an educator, coach, and mentor. Hopefully raise enough money to bring a hitting facility for your youth programs for all spring sports, baseball, softball and golf.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
Being a husband to my wife of 20 years, Madelyne Moore.
