Matthew Cecil, a 2011 Hermiston High School graduate, was among seven recipients across the state who recently received Workers’ Memorial Scholarships.

The Workers’ Memorial Scholarship is open to any high school graduate, graduating high school senior, GED recipient, or current college undergraduate or graduate student who is a dependent or spouse of an Oregon worker who has been fatally injured or permanently disabled while on the job. Cecil, who was in middle school when his father was killed on the job, received a $1,000 award. Cecil is pursuing a career in business management at Northwest University in Kirkland, Wash
