Elizabeth M. Carlson

HERMISTON — Elizabeth M. Carlson of Boardman died Friday, Dec. 7, at the Good Samaritan Center in Hermiston at the age of 83.

She was born on June 19, 1918, to John and Allie Clark Dunkel in Ashby, Neb., where she was raised and attended school.

Elizabeth married Harold E. Carlson on July 18, 1936, in Ashby, Neb. They moved to Hood River in 1942 and she went to work for A.G.A. (now Diamond Fruit) as a sorter and box maker. She retired and then in 1987 she moved to Boardman where she had lived until moving to the Good Samaritan Center in Hermiston.

She attended the Boardman Christian Center, was a member of the Boardman Garden Club and Greenfield Grange, and was active at the Boardman Senior Center. Elizabeth enjoyed gardening, fishing, going to church, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, John and Bill Carlson, both of Boardman; daughter, Kay Thomas of Boardman; brother, George Dunkel of Valentine, Neb.; sister, Lucile Bosch of Albany; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold E. Carlson; brother, Lewis Dunkel; and two infant sisters.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Hood River at 2:30 p.m.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of the arrangements.
