HERMISTON — A Hermiston businessman and former Stanfield Police officer was found dead in his home Friday morning and police have arrested his wife and charged her with his murder.

Police say Walter Blankenship, 38, was allegedly shot and killed by his wife, Kathleen Ruth Blankenship, in their home on Cooney Lane Friday morning between 8 and 9 a.m.

Walt Blankenship, the owner of Village Stove and Spa on North Highway 395, died from multiple wounds received from a semi-automatic handgun.

Police arrested Kathleen Ruth Blankenship, 38, on Saturday. She was charged with intentional murder. If convicted, she could face 25 years to life in prison. She remains lodged in the Umatilla County Jail with no bail.
