"Margie" Brandt

HERMISTON — Marjorie M. "Margie" Brandt died Tuesday, March 4, in at Rose Arbor Assisted Living Facility in Hermiston at the age of 88.

She was born on Sept. 7, 1914, in Ellensburg, Wash., the second of three girls to John and Clara Knode Burnham. Her family moved to Pendleton when she was little for a few years before moving to Stanfield. She attended school in Stanfield and then, later, in Hermiston, where she graduated from high school.

Margie joined the canning club in high school and won a trip to Corvallis.

She graduated from college in Ellensburg, Wash., with a degree in education. She taught in several rural areas in Oregon and Washington in one-room rural schoolhouses. She spent two of those years at Columbia School in Hermiston. Her final teacing post was in Withrow, Wash., overlooking Wenatchee, Wash.

She really enjoyed teaching and thought the little kids were cute.

Margie married Louie Brandt on June 7, 1942, in Pasco, Wash. They owned and operated a ranch near Withrow, Wash., for many years.

She and her husband enjoyed traveling, expecially many years ago when they were able to visit many of the national parks. Yosemite was Margie's favorite park.

Louie died in 1996 and Margie moved from the ranch back to Hermiston to be near her family.

She enjoyed taking music lessons and swimming in the river as a youth, and loved cooking.

Marjorie is survived by her niece, Dixie Banker, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Brandt; parents; sister, Mary Giddens, in 1990; and an infant sister.

A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, March 8, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Waterville Cemetery in Waterville, Wash.
