The Umatilla School Board saw the first drafts of plans for the proposed addition to McNary Heights Elementary School at its meeting July 10.

The option the site plan committee likes best has the gymnasium facing the street to allow easier public access, said Heidi Sipe, Umatilla School District superintendent. Fifteen classrooms would sit north of the gym in the plan, with five classrooms left of the gym. A secure public access would be between the gym and one classroom wall.

The board hasn't decided about the final drawing, Sipe said.

The committee rejected the other option, with the gymnasium surrounded by classrooms.

The board reelected Adam Russell chairman and Bob Wimberly vice chairman.

The next Building Committee meeting is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at the district office.
