PENDLETON — The fate of Kathleen Ruth Blankenship is now in the hands of the jury.

After receiving instructions from Umatilla County Circuit Judge Garry Reynolds, the 12-member jury in the Blankenship murder trial was excused at 2:30 p.m. Monday to deliberate their decision.

The jury must decide if Blankenship killed her husband, Walter Blankenship, in cold blood or if she was suffering from extreme emotional distress.

Walter Blankenship was found murdered April 6, 2001, at the couple's Hermiston home on Cooney Lane.
