Peter Yates Berkley

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Peter Yates Berkley of Hermiston died Thursday, Jan. 10, at Jonathan Wainwright Veterans Medical Center in Walla Walla, Wash., at the age of 61.

Peter was born on July 26, 1940, in Shanghai, China, to Joseph Berzawski and Margaret Yates Berkley. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Hermiston, Bounders United RV Club, and a life member of V.F.W. Post 8691 of Washingtonville, N.Y.

He loved RV life.

Peter retired from the U.S. Army after 23 years as a first sergeant. He married Kathleen P. Conklin on April 11, 1990, at Fort Hunter Liggett, Calif.

Peter is survived by his wife, Kathleen of Hermiston; son, Peter Yates Berkley Jr. of New Jersey.; daughter, Barbara Berkley of New Jersey; stepdaughters, Charlene Blake of Middletown, N.Y., and Alene Jean Brackman of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren; brother, Capt. Joseph Berkley Jr. of San Diego, Calif.; and sister, Mrs. Ray Alworth of San Jose, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 12, at Grace Baptist Church in Hermiston. Disposition was by cremation.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston was in charge of the arrangements.
