The scheduled demolition of the archway entrance to the old Armand Larive Middle School has been postponed.
The archway, the last standing piece of the school, had been scheduled for demolition at 9 a.m. Thursday.
But a group of citizens have come forward and asked that the archway be preserved as a historic landmark. The school, originally Union High School, was built in 1936.
School officials were scheduled to meet Wednesday morning to hear reports on the structural integrity of the archway, what safety issues would be involved with keeping it and what costs would be associated with maintaining it in a safe manner.
