HERMISTON — It took Kelly Sanders, executive director of the Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation, a couple of days to catch up with Milroy Meyer to tell him he was selected for the 2002 Christmas Spirit Award.

Meyer, as a volunteer, was too busy helping deliver turkeys for the Hermiston Police Christmas Express to return Sanders' call.

"Judy (his wife) finally gave him my cell phone number," said Meyer with a grin.

Nominated by community members, Meyer was selected by the foundation for "his years of service, generosity and contributions to individuals and the community ? with no expectation of remuneration."
