Construction began on the Umatilla Basin Water Commission’s aquifer recharge project early in March. Several Hermiston companies won bids that include supplying and laying pipe as well as making improvements to the existing pipeline that supplies water to Greenwood Resource’s tree farm.

The project is the culmination of several decades of work by area farmers and politicians that will allow water from the Columbia River to be piped into the Ordnance Aquifer below the boundary of Umatilla and Morrow Counties.
