Dennis Michael Simmons was born on Feb. 25, 1952 in North Carolina to Ed and Dorothy Simmons.
Dennis and his family moved to Oregon when he was 3 years old, living first in Heppner for a short time and then settling in Stanfield.
Dennis excelled in sports and academics at Stanfield High School. Shortly after graduating in 1970 he enlisted in the Navy where he spent six years primarily on Naval carriers.
Dennis settled back in Stanfield after his service ended. He married Kim Simmons and they raised three children together in a home on Loop Road. Dennis built and operated a successful controls engineering business from 1995 to 2013.
Dennis had recently retired and move to Cody, Wyoming, the place he had always wanted to be. He lovingly referred to his home there as “The Promised Land.”
Dennis was well known for his dedication to his family, his ability to build or fix anything, his incredible humor, and his love of hunting, fishing, and being in the mountains.
Dennis passed away on June 11, 2017. He leaves behind many who love him dearly. His memorial service will be held on Sunday June 18, at 4 p.m. at Bennett Botanical Gardens, 32632 E. Punkin Center Road, Hermiston, Oregon. All are welcome.
