Dale Lance “Humpy” McCoy died March 13, 2017, in Wellington, Arizona. He was born March 9, 1946, to Carroll W. and Rena Zylstra McCoy in Yakima, Wash.
He graduated from Umatilla High School in 1964, and joined the United States Air Force, serving from Oct. 1964 to July 1969.
He worked on the Ramos Ranch in Echo for many years before and after the military. He worked on the toll bridge after his time in the service, and worked for the city of Umatilla for six years. He retired from the Umatilla County Road Department in 2003. He was also with the Umatilla Fire Department for “28 or 30” years.
He is survived by his wife Melody A. McCoy; his daughters Lisa McCoy and Teressa Jensen (Aaron), both of Hermiston; stepchildren Maurine Cline of Hermiston, Sherri Olofson (Trent) of Sandpoint, Idaho, Earl Snyder of Seattle, Wash., and Darrell Snyder of Safford, Ariz.; sister Lynn Uitto (Irv) of Umatilla; and brother Dennis McCoy (Margie) of Hermiston. He had 15 grandchildren and one great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Rena McCoy, and brother Gordon McCoy.
Dale was loved by so many friends and family. He loved to hunt, fish and go camping, being “Uncle Dumpy,” and traveling with his wife.
Memorial services will be held June 17, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Umatilla High School gymnasium.
