Korean official to present peace medals

Published on May 15, 2018 5:56PM

Area Korean War veterans may receive an Ambassador for Peace Medal from the Seattle office of the consulate general of the Republic of Korea.

Officials are seeking to honor those eligible with the commemorative medal as an expression of appreciation from the Korean government to American service personnel who served during the war. The medal was first presented as a special memento to veterans who returned to South Korea through the Revisit Program. The honor has been expanded to include veterans who can’t travel to Korea.

To be eligible, veterans must have served from June 25, 1950, to July 27, 1953. Those who participated in United Nations peacekeeping operations until the end of 1955 also qualify.

The consul general will host a luncheon Friday, June 8 at 11:30 a.m. at the Red Lion Columbia Center, 1101 N. Columbia Center Blvd., Kennewick. For more information or to RSVP, contact heidia@dva.wa.gov or 360-725-2154 with your name, phone number, dates of service and the name of your lunch guest by Friday, June 1.
